Journalism Training

I am available to teach international journalism training sessions offered in either English or French.

In October 2024, I participated in the Ubud Readers and Writers Festival in Bali and went on to conduct various journalism lectures and trainings in Ubud, Denpasar, Jakarta, and Pontianak, on the Indonesian part of Borneo (Kalimantan).

In 2018 and 2019, I went to Cotonou, Benin to lead various workshops for journalists of varying experience in the craft of journalism: interview techniques, document searches, approaches to writing.

In September 2011, I worked in Libreville, Gabon, in conjunction with the Gabonese Ministry of Communications, to train Gabonese journalists in investigative journalism techniques.

In 2006, I was a Knight International Press Fellow in Algiers, Algeria for four months, offering training sessions — in French — for both Francophone and Arabophone newspaper journalists. I conceived and executed workshops on journalism basics, enterprise journalism, and investigative journalism.

In 2009, I returned twice to Algeria to conduct week-long training sessions in investigative journalism under the auspices of the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX).

In 2007, I was a faculty member at the Jackson Hole Writers Conference, working with Terry Tempest Williams and Alexandra Fuller to present magazine writing seminars.

In 2004 and 2005, I taught magazine writing seminars for two consecutive summers at the Aspen Summer Words Festival, sponsored by the Aspen Writers Institute.
